The latest edition of the World health statistics provides an essential examination of trends in global health over the past two decades that have shaped the world in which we live. It highlights the sobering reality that, due largely to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, global life expectancy and healthy life expectancy have both regressed to the level a decade ago, although the impact was unequal across regions and income groups. This regression and its associated inequality signal significant challenges to health systems, demanding urgent attention and action.
Monitoring deaths aids in identifying and addressing their causes, allowing health systems to adapt and respond effectively. Therefore, a robust Mortality Surveillance System is the cornerstone of a highly effective public health system. It plays a pivotal role in measuring key indicators such as the crude mortality rate (CMR), life expectancy, total and excess mortality, maternal, neonatal, infant, and child mortality rates; categorized by age, gender, location, and other forms of mortality.

The World health statistics report is the World Health Organization (WHO) annual compilation of the latest available data on health and health-related indicators for its 194 Member States. The report is produced by the WHO Division of Data, Analytics and Delivery for Impact, in collaboration with WHO technical departments and regional offices. The 2021 edition features the latest data for more than 50 health-related indicators from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the WHO Triple Billion targets
The Statistical Abstract is an annual publication compiled by Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), and provides the statistical summary on various socio-economic indicators for Uganda. Some of the Calendar Year (CY) 2020 and Financial Year (FY) 2020/21 data presented in this edition are provisional and could be revised in subsequent publications. Similarly, some figures in this edition may vary from those in the earlier editions due to the updates that have taken place. Besides, the names and numbers of administrative units has been increasing over the last twenty years so those in this publication may not directly correspond to the ones in earlier publications.
